Ukraine cannot extinguish the fires in the Chornobyl zone because it is controlled by the Russians

Kotin explained that the forest in the Chornobyl zone was radioactively contaminated during the disaster. So when it burns and turns to ash, that radioactivity is released into the atmosphere.

"We have always noticed an increase in levels when there were fires in the summer. Now there is an increase, but within acceptable limits," Petro Kotin said.

At the same time, Ukrainian rescue workers are unable to put out the fires there. "We can not because the Russian invaders control that area. We have no information about what they are doing there. We only know that there is a fire there," said the head of Energoatom.

The media reported that fires broke out in the Chornobyl zone on March 13. There are fires near the settlements of Polissya, Babor, Stechanka, as well as in the abandoned village of Rudnya-Veresnya.
