Giorgia Meloni, leader of the Brothers of Italy party, is the winner of these elections. In a few years she has taken the party from 3% to 26% and she could become the first female premier in the history of the country. The merits of Meloni are many. A woman managed to carve out a role in a very male-dominated sphere like that of the Italian right-wing parties.

Interesting Giorgia Meloni's Crystal Slipper – Cinderella who becomes the Queen

She was born in 1977, so long after the fall Mussolini’s fascism, although she comes from the tradition of a post-fascist party, she has been able to reassure moderate voters even if some fringes of her party continue to flirt with that world. Meloni's problem, like almost all Italian politicians, is a lack of courage. Giorgia Meloni has been holding a double speech for some time. She is "sovereignist" and nationalist in Italy, Atlanticist and reassuring in Europe.

It is no coincidence that a few days ago she personally had the opportunity to condemn the attitude of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, one of Putin's best allies in Europe. And she failed. And it is no coincidence that the first compliments for the electoral victory came from the entourage of the Hungarian premier.

In theory, the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella should give her the task of leading the next government. In reality, Giorgia Meloni may have difficulty finding or building a majority. In fact, the problems are above all in her field. Matteo Salvini and his league (Lega) have fallen below 10% and this will likely lead to a party congress. Many of Salvini's opponents within the party will demand his resignation.

Silvio Berlusconi, the third member of the center-right coalition, on the other hand, achieved an excellent result as Forza Italia, torn apart by internal feuds, went over 8%. The paradox is that Putin's billionaire friend could become the true king maker of this legislature.

Berlusconi is in fact a male chauvinist, an egotist who has never allowed anyone to emerge as his political heir. It seems quite unlikely he will accept that a 45-year-old woman could rule the country and the coalition of which he is a member. The elderly leader also contributed to the fall of the Mario Draghi government, which was Atlanticist and in favor of sending weapons to Ukraine.

By the way Moscow is losing its Trojan Horse in Italy

Just a few days ago, on television, Berlusconi provoked enormous embarrassment with his statements: "Putin wanted to replace the government in Kiev with decent people". He said it in front of an astonished audience. This shows for whom the heart of the Forza Italia boss beats.

Another paradox

The votes of Berlusconi's party will be important in order to form the next government. Berlusconi's dream is to become president of the Republic and this parliament will have to choose the successor of the current president Sergio Mattarella. Italy could therefore have a convict for tax fraud, false accounting and embezzlement, very close to Putin, as the next President of the Republic.

Another problem of Meloni is that of her relations with the so-called "deep state", with the public administration which in Italy represents a real counter-power. The FDI leader has long been trying to put her men in the places that matter, but that power is still firmly in the hands of the Democratic Party. Despite the fact that they lost this election.

If you have reached this point in the article and you have not fainted yet, you should know that surprises do not end there.

Another striking result that came out of the polls is that of the Cinquestelle Movement led by Giuseppe Conte. The nickname of the leader of this party is Camale-Conte, a contraction between chameleon (the animal which adapts to his environment) and Conte (his family name). Because Giuseppe Conte has never taken a clear position on important dossiers.

Pro Russian, but also pro Europe, he ruled with the right, but he campaigned against Salvini and Meloni. With him as a premier, a contingent of Russian military arrived in Italy and, pretending to want to help the country in its fight against covid. This military contingent tried to steal the secrets of what is still the third European economy.

Conte summoned many votes especially in the poorest regions of Italy. His government introduced measures such as “citizenship income” (reddito di cittadinanza), an aid to those who did not have a job. In theory, an excellent idea, but in a very corrupt country like Italy, where there is a dramatic lack of controls, this measure has led to scams and many people who were not entitled to it have obtained it. Obviously the costs for the public administration have been extremely high.

This is what the Italians themselves define: the political comedy. The most dramatic figure, however, is above all one: about 46% of voters, almost one in two, did not go to vote. Probably because the political offer was very bad.

In all this chaos, support for Ukraine could suffer. No party and no pro-Putin politician, and there are many on the left and right, can influence Italian politics that much. But they can delay important decisions such as that of sending weapons to Kyiv, and this is what the many Russian propagandists are playing on.
