Having failed to "capture" Kyiv in 3 days, as it had defiantly planned, the Kremlin is ready to abandon the attempts of capturing the Ukrainian capital. If not at all, at least this will no longer be their main goal. Instead, the Russian invaders will focus on "conquering" the East.

Traditionally, Russian tactics will be vile and cynical. A U.S. Defense Department spokesman expects that the Russian army will try to cut off the Donbas and the Ukrainian military defending it, and then use it as a lever of influence during the talks.

Meanwhile, Russia has already declared that the first phase of its "military operation" is reportedly complete and that it will now focus on the full "liberation" of the Donbas. This announcement is further evidence that the Kremlin has changed its plans due to the fierce resistance of Ukrainians during a month of the war.
