"They did what they wanted to do, they controlled the town. Today they finished it and left our town. They are not in the town right now. We solve our problems ourselves," the mayor said in a video message.

The Russian invaders demanded that there should be no police in Slavutych. Fomichev said the Ukrainian National Police left the town on March 25. Veterans of the Interior Ministry patrol Slavutych with registered weapons.

Slavutych is one of the youngest towns in Ukraine. It was founded as a town for nuclear engineers to work at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Since Russia's war against Ukraine, it has become a "hot spot." Unarmed Slavutych residents put up heroic resistance to the Russian soldiers.
