"In Donetsk direction, near the city of Mar'inka, as a result of a counteroffensive by our troops, the enemy suffered losses and retreated. Units of the defense forces regained control over this settlement", the Armed Forces said.

Tetiana Ihnatchenko, a spokeswoman for the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, said that Mar'inka was one of the hottest spots in the war. Russian assassins attack the city several times a day.

According to Ihnatchenko, Russians used phosphorous bombs in Mar'inka. She added that the settlement is turning into ruins.
