The Prosecutor's Office of Bukha district in the Kyiv region has opened a criminal investigation into the deaths of the journalists. A criminal case was opened under the article on violation of the laws and customs of war in connection with premeditated murder.

According to the investigation, a car in the village of Gorenko Kyiv region was hit by a missile on March 15, triggered by artillery fire from Russian forces. The operator of the U.S.-based TV Fox News channel, an Irish national, succumbed to his injuries. A Ukrainian journalist was fatally injured.

The victims are Ukrainian journalist Oleksandra Kuvshinova and Fox News cameraman Pierre Zakzhevsky.

The murder of a Times journalist

On March 13, two foreign journalists arrived on the outskirts of the town of Irpin in the Kyiv region to shoot reports on the evacuation of the population from the town and to film the ruins. Near the Romanivskyi Bridge, the driver of a green Lada car offered to let the media representatives out, and the journalists agreed.

They began to photograph the aftermath of the Russian shelling. The invaders then fired warning shots. The driver of the car reacted and began to flee with the journalists. But the Russians opened fire on them. 51-year-old Times correspondent Brent Renaud was killed.
